About the Commissioners
The Fair Employment and Housing Commission is composed of seven Commissioners appointed by the Governor with the consent of the state Senate. The Commissioners serve staggered four year terms. Current Commissioners are George Woolverton, Chairman; Carol Freeman; Linda Ng; Dave Carothers; Patricia Perez, Vice-Chair; and Stuart Leviton. There is currently one vacancy on the Commission.
The Commission's sister agency is the Department of Fair Employment and Housing. The Department receives, investigates, conciliates and prosecutes complaints by individuals alleging discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations and hate violence. The Department maintains field offices throughout the state.
Chairman George Woolverton is a partner in the law firm of Stockwell, Harris, Widom & Woolverton in Los Angeles. He has been a member of the Commission since 1999 and Chairman since March 2000. Reappointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2006, his term expires in 2010.
Vice-Chair Patti Perez is President and Founder of Puente Consulting, Inc., an HR and employment law consulting firm in San Diego. Appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, her term expires in September 2011.
Commissioner Carol Freeman is a partner with the law firm Morgan, Lewis and Bockius, specializing in labor and employment law. Appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, her term expires in September 2009.
Commissioner Linda Ng is the Safe Drinking Water Office Chief at the California Department of Water Resources. Appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, her term expires in September 2011.
Commissioner Dave Carothers is Managing Partner of the San Diego office of Carlton DiSante & Freudenberger LLP, specializing in labor and employment law throughout the State of California. Appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2008, his term expires in 2012.
Commissioner Stuart Leviton is a shareholder in the law firm Leviton Law Group, A P.C., through which he provides advice and counsel on employment law, among other issues, to both small and mid-sized businesses and employees. Mr. Leviton is also a partner in the law firm Reed & Davidson, LLP, which specializes in political and election law. Appointed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, his term expires in September 2012.
